International business now makes up the majority of sales at Verotec, the leading European metal enclosure and subrack manufacturer for the electronics industry. Driven by major contract wins in North America, the forward order book now extends to more than three years, giving stability and securing several additional jobs. The increased business levels and long-term contracts have underpinned a new £200k investment in the factory to reduce lead times, improve capacity and enhance quality.
Just under three years since the first unit was installed, a second 10 tool Datron M8Cube automated machining centre with a large 1020 x 830 x 245mm XYZ capability has been commissioned. One machine is fitted with vacuum clamps for large work pieces; the other with mechanical clamps to hold multiple smaller pieces. The CAM cell can now simultaneously produce small modified front panels in high volumes and also larger panels that require many different sizes and shapes of aperture in a single monolithic piece of aluminium sheet. In addition, new Datron tooling enables high precision engraving of legends and logos. A linisher/brusher has also been installed to give a higher quality and more uniform finish to front panels. A new mezzanine floor has also been added to the Southampton manufacturing facility, creating a dedicated clean room for electronic assembly and system integration. The additional space and reorganisation has meant that assembly and configuration of the 19 inch IMRAK range, which was previously located in a separate facility nearby, has now been brought fully in-house, reducing delivery times and increasing capacity.
