TÜV SÜD creates West Midlands CE Marking & EMC Centre of Excellence

TÜV SÜD Product Service has invested £400,000 in its West Midlands laboratories to create a CE marking and EMC centre of excellence hub in the region. Based at Bearley, near Stratford-upon-Avon, the new laboratories will deliver EMC and Product Safety services to support the CE marking and certification of consumer and industrial products, as well as serving the rail and automotive industries.

The investment has created one of the largest EMC and safety test facilities in the region. The three-metre semi-anechoic EMC chamber has doors 3.5 metres by 3 metres high, which will allow TÜV SÜD to test a wider range of products, from small items such as TVs to more substantial industrial equipment.

By combining the upgraded EMC test chamber with new large laboratories, tests can be completed more quickly, delivering manufacturers a shorter time to market for new products and reduced testing costs. Within four years, TÜV SÜD is looking to double its sales revenue and the size of its workforce of expert engineers.

Commenting Jean-Louis Evans, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Product Service, said: “We have made this significant investment as the combination of an EMC test chamber and laboratory of this scale is very rare. This means that TÜV SÜD can offer manufacturers in the UK and Europe something truly unique as demand for EMC testing of large-scale items and systems is increasing. The new facility means we are able to provide a faster test service that will positively impact our customers’ product development process and time to market.”
