TT Electronics marks golden anniversary of innovative optoelectronics brand

TT Electronics, a global provider of engineered electronics for performance critical applications, is celebrating 50 years of outstanding achievement by Optek Technology, the Texas-based optoelectronics leader acquired by the group in 2003 to deliver high-performing custom and standard solutions to sensing and illumination challenges.

Founded in Carrollton, Texas, in 1968 – the year that saw the Boeing 747 rolled out, and the first manned orbit of the moon – the name Optek has grown to become a globally recognised brand within the TT portfolio. Its custom optoelectronics engineering competencies have made the Optek brand the go-to partner for OEMs and ODMs, creating unique and innovative systems for demanding industrial, medical, aerospace, defence, and transportation applications.

In addition, TT’s catalogue of standard optoelectronic products now includes high-quality infrared emitters and sensors, opto-isolators, high-reliability hermetic parts, visible LEDs, and fibre-optic detectors, receivers, and transmitters.

TT also designs and manufactures standard and application-specific components and assemblies for a wide range of automotive exterior and interior lighting applications, signage, architectural lighting, and speciality task lighting, as well as lighting for leisure and entertainment, and to support industrial processes such as colour on demand.

“All of us at TT Electronics are proud to be celebrating 50 years of providing innovative optoelectronics solutions to help solve our customers’ most challenging problems,” said Tim Wallaert, vice president and general manager of TT’s optoelectronics research and development facility in Carrollton, Texas. “We take pride in working with our customers to provide application support on standard products as well as creating custom solutions just for them. We’ve done it for 50 years and plan on continuing the tradition for the next 50!”

“I am privileged to have been a part of Optek’s history, and now TT Electronics, for the past 40 years,” said Dan Bankus, finance director, TT Electronics. “The Optek brand is a recognised leader in the optoelectronics industry and being a part of TT Electronics for the past 15 years has provided further opportunities for growth. I am looking forward to our future and the innovations to come.”
