TE Connectivity cable assemblies reduce risk, speed time to market for VR startups

TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, has announced a line of virtual reality (VR) cable assemblies that speed time to market and offer superior performance compared to other solutions in the market. TE’s cable assemblies for VR applications enable VR solution providers to get to market faster with a proven platform design that can be easily and quickly modified to address their needs. TE can provide the entire cable assembly and high-speed receptacle, or just the plug modules if the cable is sourced from another supplier. The low-profile receptacle saves valuable PCB space in the headset, while the use of equalisers within the connectors on the cable assembly extends the reach of thin cable, keeping cable weight low.

TE’s VR cable assemblies are designed specifically for virtual reality applications and are proven to transmit signal without interruption. The solution uses an HDMI 1.4 connector, a USB 3.0 connector and offers an optional DC power supply. It supports speeds up to 8 Gbps, and the high-speed I/O receptacle can support even higher data rates (up to 40 Gbps), making future upgrades easy. Designers can leverage TE’s extensive engineering expertise and application knowledge to design custom solutions while leveraging common components to minimise costs.

“VR startups must get to market quickly with strongly differentiated products, but they need to leverage standard connectivity platforms as much as possible to optimise engineering resources and cost,” said Rick Yang, product manager at TE Connectivity. “Our standard VR cable assembly design reduces risk and speeds time to market for these developers.”
