ST and Hyundai Autron look to drive innovative engine-train and smart-power products

STMicroelectronics has reached agreement with Hyundai Autron, the electronics subsidiary of Hyundai Motors Group of Korea, to collaborate on the development of electronic control systems for automotive applications. Engineers from both companies are beginning the project by targeting semiconductors for power-train applications and specifically for engine management units.

The two companies are simultaneously exploring expanding the cooperation into other applications starting with using existing ST Application Specific Standard Products in new-generation vehicles expected to sample later this year; jointly-designed products could also begin to appear soon after.

ST brings its reliable automotive technologies, including smart-power technologies, such as BCD (Bipolar CMOSDMOS) to the cooperation. The company’s smart-power technologies look to enable effective integration of interface, control, and communication functions together with the power-driver section and a cost-effective implementation of distributed intelligence.
