SmartKem discusses the route to low cost TFT at IDTechEx Show

SmartKem will share its experience of the road to commercialisation at a prominent industry conference this month.

Gary Tam, Asia business development director, will present at the Printed Electronics Europe conference, taking place as part of the IDTechEx Show in Berlin, Germany, between April 11 and 12.

The event connects emerging technologies with global brands, featuring nine concurrent technologies at a single exhibition, including printed and flexible electronics and display technology.

SmartKem, the leader in the design and development of organic semiconductors for electronic displays, has announced a number of deals with leading Asian display makers to commercialise its TruFLEX technology – a groundbreaking step in the development of OLED and LCD on plastic rather than glass.

Enabling the development of lightweight, robust and flexible displays, SmartKem’s technology has attracted significant interest and the company has made significant strides forward in OTFT manufacture.

Mr Tam commented: “Conference delegates will hear our own unique story of the development of truFLEX and our work with leading display makers around the world.

“Our technology has been developed in direct response to brand needs in display manufacture – in quite a saturated market place, they are looking for differentiation and products that are truly innovative in terms of flexibility, power consumption and robustness. We believe that organic semiconductor integration will create truly innovative device design opportunities.

“Our technology delivers significant benefits for manufacturers too. SmartKem has created a platform that has a process of record on existing a-Si solution coating display-manufacturing lines. There is therefore limited relative investment required to convert across to truFlex from traditional techniques. It’s a drop-in technology with significant advantages for the entire supply chain.”

Talking to key technology trends and needs in the electronic display market, as well as an insight to the intellectual property portfolio of the company, Mr Tam will explain the results achieved to date on the Gen 2.5 OTFT plate and talk about the innovation roadmap of the company in the coming months.
