Smartkem achieves ISO 9001 certification

SmartKem, a UK chemical specialist and leader in the design and development of organic semiconductors for electronic displays, has been recognised for best practice in how to manage and monitor quality across its operations.

SmartKem has successfully achieved the revised ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System certification. By meeting the rigorous criteria, the company affirms its ability to consistently deliver an effective quality management system and drive continuous improvements to its services and internal processes.

Steve Kelly, SmartKem CEO, said: “We are extremely proud that we have earned this certification, which showcases our absolute commitment to quality.

“As the world’s most widely recognised quality management standard, ISO9001 outlines ways to achieve, as well as benchmark, consistent performance and service. It was a real team effort and we are very pleased to have formal recognition of our high standards. The accreditation means our customers can have total confidence in the service we provide.”

The ISO 9001: 2015 certification promotes the development of continual improvement, customer satisfaction, traceability and international best practices throughout an organisation.

SmartKem, founded in 2009, has developed a world leading organic semiconductor TFT technology for the manufacture of new and improved high-performance OLED and LC displays. This new generation of displays are thin, lightweight and offer the lowest power consumption on the market – the ideal solution for wearable, smartwatch and mobile display-based products where battery life is at a premium.

SmartKem is scaling up the manufacture of its semiconductor technology platform, truFlex, and has signed a series of commercialisation agreements with display makers in Asia.

Michael Hobson, head of quality at SmartKem, said: “We have made significant strides as a company over the past six months, strengthening our market position and developing partnerships with major players in the global display industry.

“Implementing best practice processes has been a crucial element to our achievements so that we can consistently deliver continuous improvement in all areas across the business.”
