RS awarded NUWPEC framework in recognition of quality service in components supply to the education sector

RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc, the global distributor for engineers, has been awarded the National Universities’ Working Party on Electronic Components (NUWPEC) framework for the next four years, in recognition of its high-quality provision of service and components supply to the education sector.

RS was first awarded the framework in 2003, and has gained the four-year framework (an initial period of three years with a one-year extension option) as a result of its exceptional level of service and technical capability.

RS’ approach to procurement efficiencies holds real benefits for the education sector. The company’s independently verified research into procurement processes led to it developing a proven value process through which significant savings on product procurement can be achieved. In addition, its DesignSpark software, available free to design engineers, has long been an enabler of innovation and key in providing inspiration around Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, to address the potential industry skills shortage.

The company’s most recent demonstration of commitment to education is the RS Live truck – a 35-tonne mobile experience, bringing engineering to life for future and current engineers – which is on a 12-month tour of northern and central Europe, visiting a variety of academic institutions and local communities with a range of inspirational interactive zones.

Kudzai Manduvi, national account manager for RS, said: “We are delighted to have received this four-year NUWPEC framework which reflects our commitment to providing a high-quality service in the supply of electronics components and equipment to the education sector. This, coupled with our dedication to supporting the education sector and the industry by influencing the engineers of tomorrow, has stood us in good stead for this contract award.”

Ian Ross, contracts director at North Western Universities Purchasing Consortium, who led the tender process for this NUWPEC framework, said: “NUWPEC is delighted to offer our members the re-tendered framework. We believe that it reflects the exceptional level of service and technical capability offered by RS Components.

“Collaboration with our framework suppliers is key to driving innovation and sustainable cost savings for our clients and we are looking forward to continuing a successful, long-term relationship with RS Components. NUWPEC and its partners demonstrate how value for money can be obtained by a proper procurement process,” he added.
