Qt selected by Peugeot for digital cockpit in new concept car

Qt announced that Peugeot – the French car brand – has selected Qt’s development framework as the foundation for the digital cockpit inside the PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT.

The interior screens and user interfaces of today’s cars – including digital instrument clusters, heads-up displays, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems and rear-seat entertainment systems – play an integral role in the increasingly digital driver experience. With so many disparate screens, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are hard-pressed to maintain a cohesive user experience. Not only must OEMs provide responsive graphics and reliable performance, but they must also meet functional safety standards with very rapid design-to-development production cycles.

The PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT, a fully electric vehicle with autonomous driving capabilities, marries classic styling with cutting-edge technology. The digital cockpit includes 16 screens, the major screen being 49 inches, along with a steering wheel that retracts during autonomous driving. Peugeot used Qt to incorporate the design for the digital cockpit.

Qt’s cross-platform software development framework offers a comprehensive platform that enables Peugeot to create sophisticated digital cockpits with features that range from the dials and meters on the instrument cluster to the touch-enabled user interfaces on the centre screen. With tools such as Qt Quick and Qt 3D, Peugeot can develop intuitive, next-generation touch-driven displays that incorporate 3D graphics. Qt’s cross-platform framework ultimately offers the driver a seamlessly integrated user experience across all screens.

“We are thrilled to work with one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers in developing a digital cockpit that goes hand-in-hand with the comprehensive innovation behind the PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT,” said Tero Marjamäki, head of Automotive at The Qt Company. “As the cars of tomorrow evolve to adapt to the digital era of today, the driver experience must follow suit. With Qt’s technology, Peugeot ensures the digital cockpit in the driver’s seat is as advanced as the technology under the hood, setting the stage for the driving experience of the future.”

The PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT, with the Qt-built digital cockpit, is revealed at the Paris Motor Show on Oct. 4-14, 2018.
