Plextek Consulting and RFEL partnership targets defence applications

The product innovation and design consultancy Plextek Consulting has formed a strategic partnership with electronic video and signal processing solutions provider RFEL, to use RFEL’s low-power, real-time, video-processing platform (HALO) to reduce the time to market for defence and security applications.

RFEL’s HALO offers next-generation, low power, real-time video processing for image-based surveillance technology. It will specifically enable Plextek Consulting to develop its imaging solutions due to its adjustable configuration and high performance capability. This will guarantee cost reductions and flexibility during the design phase, while also allowing Plextek Consulting to provide fast-track video solutions to its customers.

It is hoped that the collaboration will also lead to a reduction in size, weight and power (SWaP) within a video processing product, such as a security camera, while guaranteeing the quality real-time video and signal processing performance that is required by today’s most advanced defence & security, wireless communications, instrumentation, and video & image applications.

Commenting Dr Paul Martin, Chief Technology Officer of Plextek Consulting said: “The partnership with RFEL will enable us to continue innovating our video solutions, with the unique HALO platform providing a faster time to market for our customer’s products. We were particularly impressed with HALO’s high throughput performance and small power consumption, which can open up the opportunities for the design and production of subsequent compact, lightweight solutions from Plextek Consulting.”

Alex Kuhrt, CEO of RFEL added: “We’re starting to build an ecosystem that will bring together companies such as Plextek Consulting with complementary skills to create innovative solutions. HALO provides a proven set of hardware and software for video processing and will enable Plextek Consulting to innovate with its own specialist skills.”
