Global power conversion manufacturer Mornsun is pleased to announce the launch of the R3 series of 0.75 – 1 watt single and dual output, fixed input DC/DC converters.
The result of extensive research, development and innovation has seen these new converters move away from the traditional self-oscillating (Royer) push-pull circuit design through the utilisation of IC technology. The result is more consistent performance, better reliability and eradication of a number of issues present in self-oscillating circuit designs. The improvements in design significantly enhance their capabilities and scope of application.
These converters are currently available with an input voltage of 5V DC with input voltages of 12, 15 and 24V DC to be added in the near future. They are provided with single outputs of 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 24V DC and dual outputs of ±5, ±9, ±12 and ±15V DC. They are available in regulated (single output) and non-regulated (single and dual output) versions with typical line regulation of ±0.25% max (±1% input voltage change) for regulated types and ±1.2% max (±1% input voltage change) for non-regulated types. Load regulation is ±3% max (10-100% load) for regulated types and 15% max (10-100% load) for non-regulated types.
All models feature continuous, self-recovering, short circuit protection and input to output isolation of 1500V DC or 3000V DC. Full load efficiency of up to 85% and low load efficiency up to 75% ensures minimal heat rise within circuits and excellent low load power consumption.
The change in design philosophy of this series has increased the maximum capacitive load capability. These converters are able to start up in constant current mode thereby solving the contradiction between output short circuit protection and capacitive load capacity seen with more traditional designs. An example of this function is a rise in capacitive load capability from 220uF to 2400uF in the 5V output devices.
The series features an industrial operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C for regulated devices and -40°C to +105°C for non-regulated devices. They meet the latest safety requirements and comply with EN62368 and UL62368.
The highly integrated R3 series devices have a reduced component count and use innovative construction and manufacturing techniques to provides increased reliability, MTBF for this series is 3500K hours minimum. These converters are provided in UL94-V0 rated packages which are available in industry standard SMD, SIP and DIP pin-outs. This ensures excellent compatibility with previous models and means that PCB updates are not required when replacing older variants.
