A range of high performance electrical connectors will be on display on Multi-Contact’s stand at the DSEI defence and security exhibition this September.
The company’s versatile CombiTac modular connector system is designed for the most rugged applications and allows a wide variety of contact types within a single connector. These include fibre optic connections, with their high bandwidth, high signal density and immunity to EMI and crosstalk – factors which make them desirable in military applications.
Other contact types include data transfer, high current, high voltage and fluid couplings. CombiTac has been used on the Airbus A380 aircraft.
“Unlike many other connector systems, CombiTac is designed to withstand a high number of mating cycles,” said Multi-Contact UK Managing Director Selwyn Corns.
Reliable connections in high vibration environments
Also on display will be Multi-Contact’s new TBC connector, which is available in two or three pole versions. Its use of Multilam technology ensures a reliable connection even in conditions of severe vibration. As well as high shock and impact resistance, the connector has a high level of tolerance to hydrocarbons such as fossil fuels.
The TBC is simple to connect and disconnect, and its mechanical design prevents pole reversal due incorrect coupling. Environmental protection is IP55 when mated and IP2X unmated. The unit is rated for voltages up to 1000 V and continuous currents as high as 180 A.
Power distribution within vehicles
The increase in vehicle power requirements has opened up opportunities to use bus bars in vehicles. The advantages are reduced size and weight for power transmission as well as providing convenient take off points for electronic components and systems. Multi-Contact is well placed to provide complete standard and bespoke products for all bus bar connection requirements.
A range of fork plugs for direct connection to copper or aluminium bus bars will also be on the Multi-Contact stand.
Heavy duty connectors for mobile generator sets
With some vehicles being required to effectively act as mobile generator sets, a suitable connector for power take-off uses is the heavy duty 21BV. This round, single-pole insulated coded connector provides reliable operation, IP65, IP68 and IP69K ingress protection and is salt spray tested for harsh environments.
With a current carrying capacity of up to 1000 A, it is rated at 1000 V and can accept conductor cross-sections between 150 mm² and 400 mm².
A variant of the 21BV is the 21BV-GS, which provides continuous EMC shielding. It is ideally suited for use with three-phase motors supplied by frequency inverters.
Multi-Contact will be exhibiting jointly on Stand N9-320 with Stäubli, who will be highlighting their quick release couplings for fluids and gases. The DSEI defence and security technology exhibition will take place at London’s ExCeL exhibition centre from 10 to 13 September 2013.
