Mouser-sponsored E-Race team heads to Miami

Mouser Electronics, the global authorised distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, is gearing up to support the China Racing Formula-E Team as it travels to sunny Miami on March 14th for the Formula E Miami ePrix.

The Formula E Miami ePrix is set to race through downtown Miami along the coast of Biscayne Bay. The 2.17km course features eight corners. The track boasts a number of long straights and 90-degree corners, with a unique pitline mid-way round the lap at turn six. Team China drivers Ho-Pin Tung and Nelson Piquet Jr. are driving the Mouser-sponsored Spark-Renault SRT_01E which can go 0-60 in 3 seconds and has a top speed of 150 mph.

With continued improvements to the all-electric car, expectations are high. Piquet, driving for China Racing is ranked fifth overall with 37 points after a strong third-place finish in the team’s last outing in Buenos Aires in January. All eyes will also be on Chinese racing sensation Ho-Pin Tung, a veteran of the international auto racing circuit and a Mouser-sponsored driver since 2011. Fans can even vote for their favorite driver on FanBoost, a new online program. Mouser is sponsoring the China Racing Formula-E Team this year in partnership with its valued partners Molex and Vishay Intertechnology.

Formula E is a new FIA global racing series featuring cars powered exclusively by electricity. The FIA stands for the Federation International de L’Automobile, which is the governing body for world motor sports. Formula E represents a vision for the future of the motor sports industry over the coming decades, serving as a framework for R&D around the electric vehicle, accelerating general interest in these cars and promoting sustainability, a Team China spokesman said. Team China Racing is the first national racing team authorised by the Ministry of Sports of China.

Since every advanced, sophisticated component that goes into a race car is all about precision and gaining a performance edge out on the track, auto racing is the perfect vehicle to build top-of-mind awareness for Mouser and its partners, explained Todd McAtee, Mouser vice president for Business Development, Americas. “It’s particularly exciting for us and our supplier partners that these new all-electric race cars are paving the way for future automotive technologies.”

After the Miami race, the series travels to California for the Long Beach ePrix on April 4th. That will be followed by the Monte Carlo ePrix on May 9th; The Berlin ePrix on May 30th and the London ePrix on June 27th.
