Solid State Supplies has announced that it is now stocking the L76 global navigation satellite system (GNSS) module from Quectel, a specialist in high-performance machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless solutions.
Measuring 10.1mm x 9.7mm x 2.5mm the L76 is a compact GNSS single receiver module, which supports both GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation systems, providing simultaneous open service L1 band (1575.42 MHz) reception capability. With 33 tracking channels, 99 acquisition channels, and 210 PRN channels, the module is capable of ultra low-power tracking (18mA) and acquisition (25mA) of any combination of GPS and GLONASS signals.
Using GPS in conjunction with GLONASS typically doubles the number of visible satellites compared to GPS alone, reducing the time to first fix. The coupling of the systems also increases navigation and positioning accuracy, especially when driving in dense urban environments, identifying the user’s horizontal location to within 2.5 metres circular error probability (CEP), their velocity to within 0.1 metres per second, and timing to 10 nanoseconds.
The L76 features advanced an assisted GPS (AGPS) called EASY™ (Embedded Assist System) which provides self-generated orbit prediction for instant positioning fix. The module also incorporates proven AlwaysLocate™ technology, which automatically adjusts the satellite signal receiving modes according to the user’s state for more accurate and reliable navigation, while reducing the battery power of the system.
An additional embedded logger function allows the L76 to log position information to internal flash memory at default intervals of 15 seconds and provide typically more than 16 hours log capacity at no additional cost.
The L76 is a direct pin compatible replacement for its nearest rival, while offering the additional advantage of supporting various power saving modes including backup mode via PMTK command, Periodic backup mode and AlwaysLocate backup mode. In addition, a support STANDBY pin allows the module to enter easily into standby mode.
