With dual 10/100 Ethernet transceivers within this highly integrated device supporting both fibre and copper cabling and multiple communication interfaces, Microchip’s LAN9252 controller offers enhanced flexibility for real-time EtherCAT designs.

This flexibility includes Host Bus and SPI/SQI communication, along with standalone digital I/O interfaces, allowing connectivity with a wide range of cost-effective microcontrollers when implementing the real-time EtherCAT communications Standard. In addition to supporting fibre and copper physical interfaces, the LAN9252’s dual 10/100 Ethernet transceivers also enable cable diagnostics.

Interoperable with all EtherCAT systems, LAN9252 increases test coverage and flexibility whilst also reducing design complexity and BoM cost.

Development Tools

Evaluation boards demonstrate interfacing the LAN9252 via input/output connections, or via serial communication to microcontrollers such as the 32-bit PIC32MX.
