Lane Electronics to showcase its military and high reliability connector capability at DSEI 2013

  • DSEI – 10 to 13 September at London’s ExCel Exhibition Centre

Leading electrical and electronic connector specialist FC Lane Electronics is exhibiting at DSEI 2013, the Defence Systems & Equipment International exhibition, which this year is being held at London’s ExCeL exhibition centre from 10 to 13 September.

DSEI is the world’s largest fully integrated defence and security exhibition and provides a major focus on the technologies and systems required by the defence, security and military aerospace communities. When last held in 2011, almost 1400 exhibitors from 121 countries were present when the doors opened to welcome more than 28000 visitors over four days.

Lane Electronics will showcase its military connector capability and according to Managing Director Simon Hammerton the company will bring together connectors and connector systems from several of its key suppliers including Souriau and HUBER+SUHNER, as well as sister company and UK manufacturer Weald Electronics.

Visitors to the Lane exhibit will be able to see military circular connectors including signal and power types that meet the requirements of MIL-C-5015, MIL-C-26482 and MIL-D38999.

micro38999

A key focus will be Souriau’s micro38999 circular connectors which have been designed for the most demanding environments and offer considerable performance advantages over even the smallest MIL-DTL38999 Series III units.

According to Lane’s Managing Director Simon Hammerton, the new micro38999 connectors offer the best possible performance from the most compact models currently available. The micro38999 units allow size and weight savings of as much as 50% when compared with regular MIL-DTL38999 Series III connectors and satisfy the increasing demand for more compact, lighter connection solutions for military, aerospace and industrial applications.

The connectors have removable crimp contacts which allow them to be wired or unwired on-site and up to 9 contacts can be accommodated in a choice of 5 layouts. They are available in three different fastening systems – screw fastening, bayonet coupling and push-pull and can be supplied in the classic Cadmium, Zinc Cobalt and Electroless Nickel finishes although the connectors can also be supplied with non-reflective black zinc nickel protection to satisfy the latest RoHS directives.

Bayonet coupling power connectors

Weald Electronics is one of a handful of UK connector manufacturers and many of its high reliability connector systems will be on display. The LMH series of bayonet coupling power connectors meets the requirements of MIL-C-26482 Series 1 and Patt 105. The connectors are also approved to IECQ-CECC spec BS/CECC 75201-003 and BS 9522 F0017.

Nine shell sizes in various styles as well as several contact arrangements can be supplied as well as free shells with grounding fingers. Maximum current rating is 45A and peak working voltages can be as high as 1500V – DC or AC.

Fibre-Optic MIL-DTL-38999 Series III

The Souriau MIL-DTL-38999 Series III ELIO fibre optic connector range has been designed for use where severe vibration is encountered or mechanical resistance required. It is housed within the MIL-DTL-38999 connector platform and benefits from the inherent qualities of a field proven high specification military connector.

The connectors are supplied as standard with olive green Cadmium or Nickel plating and are available from 2 to 24 way, housed across five shell sizes. They can be supplied with an aluminium, stainless steel, nickel aluminium bronze or composite shell.

With an environmental performance to MIL-DTL-38999 and EN-3645, they have an operating temperature range of -65ºC to +150ºC and an endurance of 500 mating/unmating operations.
