L2Tek extends portfolio with high-performance Ultra HDTV video transmission connectors

L2Tek, a distributor of components and sub-assemblies for professional video and high-speed communications systems, has announced the availability of connectors that meet the high 6GHz video-transmission speeds required for the latest Ultra HDTV (Ultra High-Definition Television) standard.

The new Ultra HD broadcast TV standard, which is also known as ‘4K’ and offers a picture that is four times sharper than traditional full high-definition TV, is being promoted by leading broadcasters and globally known consumer manufacturers. In addition, although primarily targeting broadcast applications, the connectors are also suitable for implementation in machine-vision applications that require high-speed video data transmission such as in industrial robotics systems, for example.

The new Ultra HD 1.0/2.3 RF coaxial cable connector range has been designed and manufactured by Cambridge Connectors to provide enhanced performance at 6GHz to meet the demands of broadcast networking equipment, such as switches and routers designed to enable high-speed single-link Ultra HD video transport.

Meeting the SMPTE 424M standard, the high-density connectors have a pitch of only 8mm, which means that up to twice as many of these compact connectors can be installed compared to traditional BNC type devices. The devices’ secure latching mechanism is compatible with standard 1.0/2.3 connectors (DIN 47297; IEC 61169-29) and offers high connection integrity via a simple push/pull operation meaning it is especially suitable for applications requiring a high wiring density and secure connection.

Connector styles available include PCB-edge-mounting, right-angle-PCB-mounting and top-entry PCB types. Device characteristics include a nominal impedance of 75 ohms and typical reflection factor performance (VSWR), when attached to the PCB, is from: 1.10 (DC – 3.0GHz) to 1.32 (3.0 – 6.0GHz) for the edge-mount type; 1.11 (DC – 3.0GHz) to 1.29 (3.0 – 6.0GHz)? ?for the right-angle version; and 1.36 (DC – 3.0GHz) to 1.38 (3.0 – 6.0GHz) for the top-entry style.

The high-durability connectors offer 500 mating cycles and come with a nickel finish as standard. The connectors are RoHS compliant and offer a wide operating temperature range of –65 to +85 degrees C. In addition, also available and complementing the 1.0/2.3 connector range are 1.0/2.3-to-BNC adapters, adapter leads and fully assembled patch leads.

The Cambridge Connector Ultra HD 1.0/2.3 cable connector range is available now from L2Tek.
