Innovasic adds PROFIBUS to its RapID platform family

Innovasic has announced a new version of its RapID Platform Network Interface for PROFIBUS connectivity. The RapID Platform – PROFIBUS Network Interface supports all data rates up to 12 Mbits/sec and is DP-V1 certified by PROFIBUS & PROFINET International according to the latest test specification for PROFIBUS DP slaves.

The PROFIBUS Network Interface is delivered as a module or embedded design containing everything needed to participate in a PROFIBUS serial network including the communications controller, protocol stack, Flash, RAM, and physical interface. A host processor connects to the Network Interface via a UART or 16-bit Parallel Interface.

At the software layer, the host connects to the Unified Interface so other protocols can be used without changing the host processor hardware or software. Since the Unified Interface is exactly the same as the Industrial Ethernet versions of the RapID Platform, customers developing a PROFIBUS product with the RapID Platform can easily convert to an Industrial Ethernet version of the product. Similarly, existing RapID Platform customers can now easily add PROFIBUS to their products.

“What’s nice about our RapID Platform solution is the flexibility to use any protocol and your host processor hardware or software doesnt have to change, says Volker Goller, Innovasics European Application Manager. This means customers using our PROFINET version of the RapID Platform can seamlessly drop in the PROFIBUS version.

PI-certified RapID Platform PROFIBUS Network Interface modules and embedded designs are available now.
