The ULE Alliance, a non-profit organisation dedicated to developing the full potential and worldwide market adoption of the ULE (Ultra Low Energy) wireless technology for IoT, has announced that a ULE gateway from Huawei, branded as Qivicon powered by Deutsche Telekom, successfully passed the ULE certification programme. The organisation has also released a 6LoWPAN open source package, whilst Livassured and ball-b impressed the jury at the DECT Awards with their ULE-based solutions.
‘I would like to compliment Huawei on their commitment to global standards, and on their ULE gateway, which now carries the ULE certification logo,’ says René Kohlmann, chairman of the ULE Alliance. ‘With the certification programme, the ULE Alliance drives interoperability, establishing a strong Smart Home environment, riding the always reliable and worldwide-adopted DECT technology.’
ULE is one of the longest range and most stable wireless networking solution available on the market. It supports integrated two-way voice and video, and offers customers whole home solutions with a simple and low-cost layout. The ULE Alliance promotes the ULE technology to be a leading infrastructure and standard for home wireless networks and assists its members to develop IoT solutions that build on ULE’s technological superiority in communication range, interference free operation, voice and video capability.
The ULE Certification Programme is a standards conformance programme, establishing the base level of interoperability of devices and enforcing a high quality requirement for product operation to achieve consistent user experience. Members of the ULE Alliance are eligible to certify ULE devices, and the application for certification can be accessed online.
The tests were conducted at AT4 wireless, the official testing and certification partner of the ULE Alliance. AT4 wireless offers ULE Alliance members testing and certification services for ULE devices.
6LoWPAN: open source package now available
The ULE Alliance has also released a software package for 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over Low power Wireless Personal Area Networks). The open source package, which is available via the website of the ULE Alliance, includes the 6LoWPAN layer and a related test bed, including test cases for implementation verification.
By enabling ULE to be able to transport standard IP routing techniques, the attractiveness of using ULE for Internet of Things (IoT) solutions will increase even further.
Livassured and ball-b impress jury at DECT Awards
The ULE standard was also one of the main topics at this year’s DECT World Conference in Barcelona, where the winners of the prestigious DECT Awards were revealed on May 31. The award in the category “ULE” was won by Livassured with their solution “Nightwatch”, a warning system which has been developed for people who suffer from seizures. The runner-up award went to ball-b for their bait protection solution which helps cities and councils to control the rat and mice population whilst ensuring that the bait doesn’t enter the water cycle.
