HiWave launches range of round flat panel BMR speaker drivers

The HiBM65C20F-8 Balanced-Mode Radiator (BMR) uses the company’s patented bending-wave technology and pistonic modes of operation to deliver room-filling sound dispersion with a wide frequency range (below 80Hz to above 20kHz) and a natural, clear sound.

James  Lewis, CEO of HiWave said: “The BMR enables audio system OEMs to more cost effectively create compact, high quality speaker systems. We developed it for the home-theatre, computer, sound-bar and mini Hi-Fi speaker markets, but it will also deliver exceptional sound for a wide range of audio applications.”

Measuring  just 108mm (diameter, including 18mm external housing) x 57mm (depth), and featuring an advanced ferrite motor system, the HiBM65C20F-8 delivers a sound level of 20W continuous power (160W short-term power), despite its small size. HiWave’s patented BMR technology controls bending waveforms in the flat panel and combines this with pistonic movement for low frequency audio.

The BMR has a nominal impedance of 8Ω and is compatible with all amplifier topologies. Its electromagnetic motor design is optimised for use with HiWave’s ultra-efficient Audium amplifier chips, which delivers significant (10X) energy savings over traditional amplifiers.

The HiBM65C20F-8 is available immediately in mass production quantities. HiWave will also ship a 4Ω variant in Q2 2012.
