Cypress’s Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen solution drives Pantech’s Vega R3 smartphone

Cypress Semiconductor, a leading supplier of touch-sensing, has revealed that Pantech has selected the company’s Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen controller for its flagship Vega R3 smartphone. The Gen4 solution enables dynamic multi-finger tracking along with leading signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to deliver a highly responsive and accurate touch performance in any operating environment.

The Vega R3 phone features a large 5.3-inch LCD display that presents bright, clear images with natural colours. The TrueTouch solution enables an ultra-thin bezel around the screen on the Vega R3, allowing the phone to fit comfortably in one hand. The phone’s quad-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM provide users with a complete multitasking environment to execute multiple applications simultaneously.

“Pantech timed the debut of the Vega R3 to go head-to-head against new smartphones from larger competitors, which is a reflection of the confidence we have in the features of this model,” said Yeonsu Lee, Senior MTS, R&D Center, at Pantech. “The Cypress TrueTouch solution provided the design flexibility and multi-finger tracking performance we required to make the Vega R3 touchscreen a differentiating feature of the phone.”

“The Pantech Vega R3 is a world-class smartphone, and we are pleased that TrueTouch technology powers the touchscreen,” said Cathal Phelan, Executive Vice President of Cypress’s Consumer and Computation Division. “The Gen4 TrueTouch solution contributes to the sleek design of the phone while delivering top multitouch performance even in the noisiest of operating conditions.”
