CM-FX6 Computer-on-Module delivers high CPU performance with HD multimedia capability

andersDX, a specialist in User Interface Technology, has released the new CM-FX6 Computer-on-Module. The module’s advanced video and graphics make it suited for high-end multimedia applications. It also provides extensive connectivity through a wide range of high-speed interfaces.

The CM-FX6 is the latest Computer-on-Module product to appear from andersDX’s longstanding joint venture with CompuLab. This fully-featured Cortex A9 module mounts on an SB-FX6 carrier board to become an SBC-FX6 single board computer. The CM-FX6’s interface capabilities are made readily available to systems integrators using the SB-FX6 or alternatively, a custom carrier board.

The module’s Freescale i.MX6 application processor features a highly scalable single/dual/quad core Cortex-A9 CPU at up to 1.2GHz coupled with powerful graphics and video processing units. The processor accepts up to 4 GB DDR3 and 32 GB of on-board SSD. The integrated graphics processing unit has OpenGL ES and OpenCL Embedded Profile support. The graphics controller can drive up to four display interfaces with 1920 x 1200 resolution, while the video processing unit handles encoding and decoding to 1080p at 30 fps. H.264, VC1, RV10, DivX and other standards are supported.

Communications, I/O and bus expansion are available through Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, SATA, USB x5, UART x5, SDIO x3, CAN x2 and GPIO x112. Wireless communications are supported with WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. The module is provided with comprehensive documentation and full ready-to-run software support for Linux, Android ICS and Windows Embedded Compact 7 operating systems.

The module is extremely compact, measuring just 75 x 65 x 6 mm, and operates from a single +5 Vdc power supply. Commercial, extended and industrial versions are available, with operating temperature ranges up to -40°C to +85°C.

An evaluation kit is available, which includes the CM-FX6 module, an SB-FX6 evaluation carrier board, an LCD panel, 12 V power supply, WiFi antenna and set of cables. 12 months’ technical support is also included.

“As its specification demonstrates, the CM-FX6 is ideal for high-end multimedia applications” commented Rob Anders, CEO of andersDX, “Additionally, its compact size, environmental resilience and extended connectivity create great opportunities in remote and unattended applications from surveillance to digital signage. We’re looking forward to helping our customers across all these markets exploit the new opportunities this module provides.”
