Molex and profichip announce technology partnership

Molex Incorporated and profichip GmbH have announced a strategic cooperation focusing on PROFINET technologies. Molex software development kits (SDK) are used by many PLC manufacturers and device makers for PROFINET connectivity where maximum throughput and efficiency are required. The Molex offer includes PROFINET IO-Controller and IO-Device SDK based on ANSI “C” source code.

With an increasing focus on building a centre of design excellence for low power DC/DC converters, the company is keen to attract power design engineers to join them. The previous site suited manufacturing and distribution operations that no longer take place in Milton Keynes, so the search was conducted within the local area to locate a facility that better met the requirements of a design and prototype manufacturing operation.

British soldiers in Afghanistan helped by new 3D imaging camera

Eykona, a medical technology firm based in Oxford has developed a portable 3D imaging camera that is being used in the field by British troops in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan to assess the nature of war wounds received by soldiers. The device is also being used closer to home at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where military casualties are treated.

Samsung has selected Atmel’s AVR UC3L microcontroller with patented ultra-low power picoPower technology as its sensor hub management solution for the recently launched Galaxy Note II. Powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, the Galaxy Note II runs on Android’s 4.1 operating system (also known as Jelly Bean), and offers a 5.5-inch, high-definition super AMOLED display with 1,280 x 720 resolution.

Ground-breaking multi-voltage DC-DC technology wins funding

The UK government’s Technology Strategy Board (TSB) is funding research into a flexible multiport converter that could, in time, replace multiple separate DC-DC converters on future hybrid & electric vehicles. Such a device would provide savings on cost, weight and space and increase the EV range by up to 20%. The funding is intended to help in developing the technology for manufacture.
