Mindspeed Technologies to acquire Picochip

Mindspeed Technologies, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, has signed an agreement to acquire Picochip Limited, a UK based supplier of integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for small cell base stations, for a purchase price of nearly $52 million. The acquisition will create a market leader in small cell base station solutions for next generation mobile broadband communications infrastructure. It’s a market that, according to research firm Mobile Experts LLC, will see explosive growth with small cell base station shipments growing to 24 million units by 2016, creating a market for alternative cells, which could exceed the macrocell market in terms of transceiver unit shipments during the next four years.

Linear Technology has acquired Dust Networks, a provider of low power wireless sensor network (WSN) technology. The acquisition of Dust Networks, based in Hayward, CA, will enable Linear to offer a complete wireless sensor networking solution. Dust Networks’ low power radio and software technology complements Linear’s strengths in industrial instrumentation, power management and energy harvesting technology.

Glenn Palmer joined Murata in June 1990 as customer services manager following eight years with the Pilkington group. He was appointed OEM sales manager in 1995, then sales and marketing manager in 1998, moving on to sales and marketing director in 2002 and deputy managing director in 2005. In April 2007, he became managing director of Murata Electronics in the UK and three years later managing director for European distribution and national accounts for Murata in Europe.
