Sharp’s new tuneable white, mid-power SMD-based LED for SSL lighting applications comprises two different correlated colour temperature (CCT) emitters that together produce light output that can be steplessly "tuned" over the range of 2700–6500K. Due to get its first public outing at the Light+Building trade-show in Frankfurt at the end of the month, the new device will enable the manufacture of solid-state lighting (SSL) schemes that promise to enhance comfort, productivity and health.

Molex Incorporated has introduced the Plateau HS Dock+ Connector System for networks that require higher data rates with superior signal integrity to meet the growth in networking and wireless device markets. With a low-mating force, guide features, various offset heights, and the ability to mate in a standard coplanar or inverted coplanar position, this high-speed docking connector system is intended for PCB-blade (option card) to PCB-midplane (host) applications.

Innovasic has unveiled a new version of its RapID Platform Network Interface for PROFINET IRT and RT connectivity. The RapID Platform – PROFINET IRT Network Interface supports PROFINET v2.3 and provides cycle times down to 250 µs. Cycle times down to 31.25 µs are supported on the same hardware platform as soon as the high performance profile is released by PROFIBUS PROFINET International.

Linear Technology’s new LTC3637 device is a 76V input-capable high efficiency buck converter that delivers up to 1A of continuous output current. It operates from an input voltage range of 4V to 76V, making it suitable for telecom, industrial, avionic and automotive applications. It uses a programmable peak current-mode design to optimise efficiency over a broad range of output currents and delivers efficiencies as high as 90% and requires only 12µA of quiescent current, maximizing battery run time.

Freescale Semiconductor has launched a new 6W device for handheld mobile radio applications called the AFT05MS006N. With this latest addition to its flagship Airfast RF power solutions portfolio, Freescale is the only supplier capable of supporting all power levels of relevance to the mobile radio space, from 5W handheld units to 75W digital mobile radios and base stations.

SILICA, an Avnet company, is launching a new ArchiTech development board that has been designed to offer a low cost streamlined platform for Linux based designs. The ArchiTech Hachiko board is supplied with a Linux kernel optimised for the Renesas RZ/A1H MCU, to work with a small memory footprint together with a BSP (Board Support Package) for the on-board peripherals, minimizing development time.

Samsung Electronics has begun mass producing a value-added line-up of highly efficient lens-attached LED modules (LAMs), for use in office LED lighting applications that include linear and line lighting, cove lighting and troffers. The LAM series is created by attaching lenses on top of the LED packages in each module. The lenses add wide beam angles for their light sources using advanced optic technology, so that each LED package can brighten a space larger than that of conventional packages.

TE Connectivity (TE) has launched new extensions to its rugged, high-speed Mezalok mezzanine connector family. These extensions include a stack height of 15mm and a new 320 position size, which fill a height gap and adds additional pin density. The Mezalok connector family has been designed specifically for mezzanine cards in rugged applications and is standardized as the interconnect for XMC 2.0 (VITA 61).

RS Components (RS) is making available two touchscreen display starter kits for the Raspberry Pi, which provide a wiring interface and are suitable for creating portable and low power Raspberry Pi projects and applications. The starter kits for the 2.8-inch uLCD-28PTU-PI and 4.3-inch uLCD-43PTU-PI modules have been developed by 4D Systems and provide all the components needed to connect a Raspberry Pi to these new touchscreen displays.

Advanced Power Electronics, a manufacturer of MOS power semiconductors for DC-DC power conversion applications, has launched a small load switch with controlled turn on and very low on-resistance. The APE8937-HF-3 load switch contains one N-channel MOSFET that can operate over a wide input voltage range from 0.8V to 5.5V and support a maximum continuous current of up to 4A.
