Molex Incorporated has released details about an innovative LED Array Holding concept for LED lighting manufacturers using chip-on-board technology. The optics can now be placed much closer to the LED which not only boosts light output but enhances the quality of the light emitted.

Microchip has announced a new family of USB Power Delivery (UPD) controllers - the UPD100X with an industry-standard power delivery and battery charging protocol. A single USB cable can be used for data and simultaneously deliver up to 100W of power from a single standard USB port which is 40 times the power compared to USB 2.0. With up to 100W of available power, designers can dynamically allocate this power to fast battery charging.

Freescale Semiconductor has initiated customer sampling for its QorIQ LS1 family of dual-core SoCs. An innovative family of pin-compatible communications processors these devices are the first available in the QorIQ LS series based on Layerscape architecture from Freescale. Intersil Corporation has introduced its latest generation LCD video processor—the TW8836—with both analogue and digital video inputs, a built-in scaler and de-interlacer, as well as image enhancement and On Screen Display capabilities in a single-chip, hardware-based solution. The LCD controller family has been designed to offer flexibility and quality. The TW8836 can be used to display rear camera video with graphic overlay in less than 500 milliseconds from the start of a vehicle, exceeding government safety regulations.

Altera Corporation is making available Quartus II beta software and early access documentation for MAX 10 FPGAs, the latest addition to its Generation 10 portfolio of FPGAs and SoCs. Based on TSMC’s 55 nm embedded flash process technology, the MAX 10 FPGAs deliver advanced processing capabilities in a small form factor, low-cost, instant-on programmable logic device. Availability of software support and product documentation enables customers to start their MAX 10 FPGA designs immediately.

LED Engin, a specialist supplier of high flux density LED products, is set to demonstrate its Generation 3.0, tunable white light engine at Lightfair. The LuxiTune Generation 3.0 features a 2200 lumen emitter, equivalent to a 120W halogen lamp, that delivers smooth halogen-style dimming from 1600K to 3000K and Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT) tuning between 2100K and 4300K.
