MultiTouch, a specialist in interactive display systems, has unveiled a prototype, 4K 84” MultiTaction Cell. Previewed at the company’s annual developer conference and partner summit in Helsinki, the display, which is expected to go into production sometime in mid 2014, is now available for pre-order.

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced the first devices in its second generation of LETERASTM white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fabricated using a gallium nitride-on-silicon (GaN-on-Si) process. The 1W TL1F2 LEDs offer a cost-competitive alternative to current LED packages, allowing manufacturers of general purpose and industrial LED lighting to drive down costs.

Based on an LED platform, Icaro has been developed to offer a complete range of products embracing low, medium and high intensity aircraft warning lights and helipad perimeter lights.

Samsung Electronics has launched a new advanced pixel technology for CMOS image sensors, ISOCELL. The technology substantially increases light sensitivity and effectively controls the absorption of electrons, resulting in higher colour fidelity even in poor lighting conditions. ISOCELL improves the image quality and will be used to target premium smartphones and tablets that integrate sensors with this new technology.

FTDI Chip has released the VM800C – a family of credit card sized (85.6mm x 54.1mm) development module, and the VM800B – an encased version of this module in a fitted, plastic bezel. The portfolio is comprised of 11 specific part types in total, all based on the company’s Embedded Video Engine (EVE) platform - which provides display, audio and touch capabilities on a single chip.

andersDX, a specialist supplier of User Interface Technology, has released two new integrated Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch TFT displays; one offers high resolution WXGA at 10.1” and the other is a unique, portrait mode 3.5” HVGA module.

Everlight Electronics has expanded its high performance JU series of chip-on-board (COB) LEDs to include 7, 10 and 15 W types in addition to the existing 4W version. COB LEDs are suited for directional applications that require a powerful single light source for effective illumination such as GU, MR and PAR retrofits, downlights and candelabras.

Power Integrations has unveiled a new reference design for a dimmable PAR38 spotlight, developed in collaboration with Cree. The new design, described in DER-350, uses Power Integrations" new LYT4317E, a member of the company"s LYTSwitch-4 family of single-stage drivers, along with Cree"s MT-G2 EasyWhite LEDs.

Marl International has upgraded its bulkhead light range, widely used as bright, low energy security lighting on construction and industrial sites, with new LED technology which gives a much wider spread of light. Marl has also increased the range of colours available.

Despite a major surplus in the light-emitting diode (LED) market, leading suppliers are increasing their capital spending and production because of government incentives and in order to cash in on an expected boom in the lighting business. Global shipments of metal organic chemical vapor-deposition (MOCVD) equipment, tools that are essential for LED manufacturing, are expected to rise by 17 percent in 2013, according to new research from IHS .This will be the first annual growth for the MOCVD market since 2011, and will represent a major turnaround from the 70 percent plunge of 2012.
