ByteSnap Design drives growth with embedded Linux projects

Award-winning embedded electronics consultancy, ByteSnap Design, has experienced incredible growth in 2017, expanding its expert team and winning a host of new clients, notably in the embedded Linux area.

A particularly vibrant sector over the years, the embedded Linux market is being driven to new heights by rising IoT demands.

One such project for ByteSnap Design is a teleprompter system. ByteSnap supported CueScript, a leading global teleprompter systems and broadcast peripherals supplier, with Linux development and with the use of SnapUI for its application development.

This system has the speed and performance needed by the next generation of teleprompters which are now being used in newsrooms around the world.

Other recent innovative embedded Linux projects include:

  • Award-winning smart home security system

Cocoon: an innovative smart home security device that aims to transform the home security market. ByteSnap handled electronics design for Cocoon, a device that works by picking up low level sound waves too quiet for humans to hear, developing a prototype sensor board and the BSP.

Once the sensor board had been tested and software work was underway, ByteSnap designed the production sensor PCB and CPU board, a dense, high speed digital, PCB design involving DDR, EMMc, power and Wi-Fi.

  • Retail analytics – people counter in shops

The client manufactures world-leading people counters for retail analytics, supermarket queue management, and building utilisation applications. ByteSnap developed a Linux OS configuration and provided driver support.

  • 360 cameras for nightclubs

ByteSnap’s expertise was pivotal in the development of a 360 camera for nightclubs. The team worked on a fully custom FPGA multi-camera solution, and integrated this with an embedded Linux application processor.

  • Door entry system (Video over IP)

A well-established client offering a complete range of door entry systems for the UK domestic and exports market, needed Linux BSP expertise, driver development and access to a specialised team for complex app development. ByteSnap used its proprietary User Interface development tool SnapUI to create a Video Over IP-based system between external doors and private flats. The system supports an optional reception workstation and support for easy maintenance through a separate PC based application suite.

  • Intelligent personal robot

This innovative start-up selected ByteSnap for both Linux BSP and driver development to create an intelligent personal robot that interacts with users according to their mood.

  • Smart home security with temperature sensors

ByteSnap’s Linux BSP and driver development skillsets benefited one of the UK’s leading utility companies, in the development of a smart home security system with additional temperature sensors.

Other projects include access control systems, wireless heating control systems for houses, diagnostic equipment for remote location use, interview recording systems, digital display controllers and instrumentation for measuring fuel quality.
