Bluetooth 5.1 SoC from Nordic available from Rutronik UK

The nRF52811 from Nordic Semiconductor is a multiprotocol SoC (System-on-Chip) and one of the first devices, that supports the new Bluetooth Core Specification 5.1. Besides Bluetooth Direction Finding and Bluetooth Long Range the SoC supports 802.15.4, that can be used for Thread and Zigbee.

It enables applications for direction information and distance measurement with centimetre precision. The nRF52811 as a sample is available from Rutronik UK as of now.

The new nRF52811 is part of the nRF52 Series, offering a platform where migration between devices is easy. It is the perfect choice for simple applications and beacons, proximity solutions, real-time location systems, asset tracking and smart home solutions. Paired with a companion MCU the SoC allows advanced applications offering a broad selection of connectivity standards.

The nRF52811 is built around a 64MHz Arm Cortex-M4TM processor with 192KB Flash and 24KB RAM. Aside from regular interfaces like SPI, UART, TWI, PDM, PWM and QDEC it offers comparators and a 12-bit 200ksps ADC. Operating supply voltage is 1.7-3.6V. The SoC comes in three different package options, all compatible with the respective nRF52810 SoC.

The nRF5 SDK (Software Development Kit) v.15.3.0 provides everything needed to get started with Bluetooth development, while Thread and Zigbee connectivity are available in the nRF5 SDK for Thread and Zigbee. Bluetooth Direction Finding is not supported yet, but Nordic will offer mature software for this feature throughout this year. The nRF52840 Development Kit can be used as a development kit for the nRF52811 by emulating it.
