AVX receives UL certifications for uninsulated single contacts

AVX Corporation has received Underwriter Laboratory (UL) certifications for uninsulated single contacts in industrial applications, a move that validates the company’s assertion that its broad range of uninsulated single contacts provides full connector performance without the added expense of the insulator and its associated assembly costs.

According to a company spokesman the UL certification of AVX”s 9176 Series insulation displacement contacts (IDCs), 9155 Series compression contacts, 9296 Series single poke home contacts, and two-piece 9159 Series contacts is a major milestone in the industry-wide acceptance of these leading-edge connector solutions.

‘A testimony to the electrical and mechanical performance characteristics that our several uninsulated contact series exhibit, our latest UL certifications successfully eliminate the largest barrier between these technology-leading, cost-effective connector solutions and the American electronics industry,’ explained Tom Anderson, Product Manager at AVX. ‘Developed in response to challenging market requests for miniaturisation and cost reduction, our fully functional uninsulated single contacts have been well received since their market introduction a little over three years ago, but have yet to be employed in certain applications simply because they had yet to receive UL certification’
