Avnet Abacus customers gain from Omron distribution deal

Avnet Abacus has signed a pan-European franchise deal with Omron Electronic Components. The agreement results from the recent acquisition by Avnet of the MSC Group, a value-add distributor that focused on electronic component distribution, embedded computing technology and display solutions, as well as design and manufacturing.

Avnet Abacus is now authorised to distribute the full portfolio of Omron Electronic Components’, which includes relays, switches, connectors and sensing devices used in many applications including the building automation and security, healthcare and medical, energy, and home appliances markets.

The distributor is now offering a broad range of Omron switches, including snap action and detection devices supplied in a variety of actuators, termination and mounting styles. In addition, the portfolio features high-reliability FPC & PCB connectors, including models that offer Omron’s patented rotary backlock mechanism.

Recent introductions to the Omron Electronic Components range also now available from Avnet Abacus include the world”s first infrared (IR) sensor manufactured with wafer-level vacuum packaging technology to create a 1×8 & 4×4 element MEMS non-contact infrared thermal sensor. A 16×16 device capable of highly precise 90-degree area detection will be released later in 2014. Omron Electronic Components offers an extensive selection of compact high-accuracy sensors that are developed using proprietary MEMS technology, including flow and pressure sensors, in addition to thermal IR devices.

To complete the portfolio Avnet Abacus is stocking a comprehensive selection of Omron Electronic Components’ high precision signal, power, solid state and MOSFET relays available in PCB and SMT configurations.

Graham McBeth, President of Avnet Abacus, said, “This agreement substantially boosts our product offering to customers and enables us to fuel the growth of the range through our extensive European market knowledge and technical know-how, to capitalise on the excellent relationship already forged between Omron and MSC.”

“Bringing Avnet Abacus on board to support our electronic components business in Europe was a clear-cut decision,” said Leon Mordang, Vice President Sales and Marketing Omron. “We now have the dual benefit of effectively continuing to work with a tried and tested distribution partner, enhanced by the expertise of highly competent and knowledgeable product specialists at Avnet Abacus.”
