Aircraft warning lights from Switchtec deliver both safety and reliability

Available exclusively in the UK from Switchtec, ‘Icaro’ is Sirena’s new range of high end aircraft warning lights (AWLs). Based on an LED platform, Icaro has been developed to offer a complete range of products embracing low, medium and high intensity aircraft warning lights and helipad perimeter lights.

As well as its state of the art design, Icaro’s versatility offers solutions to a wide range of obstacle marking/ID needs. As the demand for AWLs is growing rapidly and the associated technology and desired features of AWLs are similarly constantly evolving Icaro’s high performance levels, ease of installation and virtually zero maintenance, means that customers and installers will be able to add considerable value to their AWL projects.

A complete range of devices is available comprising low intensity type A and B, medium intensity type A, B and C, and high intensity type A and B, making Icaro a complete AWL solution. All devices are 100% LED based and utilise an induced air heat sink for simplicity and reliability. Icaro’s LED circuitry guarantees a long product life estimated at over 10 years, as well as low power consumption (one tenth compared to xenon discharge bulbs). The devices can send an alarm signal in the case of a malfunction. All devices feature built in spirit levels to enable perfect installation and orientation.

High intensity devices: Icaro high intensity AWLs are compliant to ICAO type A, B and FAA L-856, L-857 regulations. The devices offer a white light with a maximum intensity of 200,000Cd, thus satisfying the most demanding of applications. Typically installed on structures over 150 meters, high intensity devices are used for day and twilight marking.

The AWL 856.857/AB is the ideal solution for an efficient and long lasting high intensity obstruction beacon. Providing a flashing white light, two options of optical lens guarantee 120 degree or 360 degree horizontal beam radiation and a vertical beam of +3 degrees/7 degrees. It can be configured to type B (100,000Cd twilight use) or type A (200,000Cd day use).

Medium intensity: The Icaro range of medium intensity AWLs are compliant to ICAO type A, B, C and FAA L-864, L-865, L-866 regulations. The devices offer a white and red light with a maximum intensity of 20,000Cd, are typically installed on structures over 45 meters, and are used for day, twilight, and night lighting. All models’ optical lenses guarantee a 360 degree horizontal beam radiation and a vertical beam of +3 degrees.

The AWL 864/BC medium intensity AWL provides a continuous or flashing red light, and can be configured to type C (continuous) or type B (flashing). A similar twin version, the AWL 864/BC TWIN, is equipped with two separate LED circuits and thanks to the current sensor installed on board, it automatically switches to the secondary circuit should the main one fail.

The AWL 865.866/A medium intensity AWL Is engineered according to ICAO medium intensity type A and FAA L-865/L-866 regulations and features a flashing white light. There are 2 output levels, 20,000Cd for Day & Twilight use and 200Cd for Night use. A dual version, the AWL 864+865.866/BC+A is engineered according to ICAO medium intensity type A + type B/C and FAA L-865/L-866 + L-864 regulations. Provided with both a continuous/flashing red light (Type BC) and a flashing white light (Type A), the device is the ideal solution for an efficient and durable high quality obstruction beacon.

Low Intensity: Icaro low intensity AWLs are compliant with ICAO Type A, B and FAA L-810 regulations. The devices offer a red light with a minimum intensity of 32Cd, thus satisfying most common applications. Typically installed on structures below 45 meters and as interim devices on taller structures, low intensity devices are used for night marking only.

The AWL810/AB, provides a continuous red light, and its optical reflector guarantees a 360 degree horizontal beam radiation and a vertical beam of between +6 and +10 degrees. Again, this model has a twin version, the AWL810/AB TWIN that is equipped with two separate LED circuits and thanks to the current Sensor installed on board, it automatically switches to the secondary circuit in the unlikely event of the main one failing. Otherwise it shares the same features as the single version.

The ‘Helix’ low intensity helipad perimeter light is an efficient and long lasting quality perimeter beacon. Provided with a green continuous light, this device has two light sources; horizontal and vertical. The horizontal light is equipped with an optical reflector that guarantees a 360 degree horizontal beam radiation and a vertical beam of +10 degrees. The vertical light has a horizontal beam radiation of 360 degrees and a vertical beam of 120 degrees.
