Aerotech invests for major defence project

Poole based Aerotech Precision Manufacturing has invested in key new manufacturing equipment to support and strengthen its involvement in a major defence project. The new equipment will allow Aerotech to significantly reduce lead times, and supply the required components within a AS9100 quality controlled environment.

The scope of Aerotech’s involvement in the defence project includes the manufacturing of a variety of intricate machined parts, controlled under stringent quality conditions. Aerotech has been involved in this particular defence project since 2013 and to-date has supplied over 170 kits. To achieve the demands of the project, Aerotech has invested in a new 5–Axis machine from Doosan along with a new large co-ordinate measuring machine. The investment in total was over £350,000. Aerotech supply the kits to local defence systems company Aish Technologies for further processing onto the final customer, a major defence contractor.

John Atkins, sales and marketing director at Aish Technologies, recognises the level of commitment Aerotech has already demonstrated in the project, with the new investment. He comments: “We have been delighted with how Aerotech have clearly committed towards this project, and the level of investment they have undertaken to enable them to achieve the project requirements. We are very much looking forward to continuing our excellent relationship with Aerotech in the future, on this and other projects.”

Allan Redfern, sales director at Aerotech, also commented: “This project is significant for us as it demonstrates the expertise and capability Aerotech has in delivering precision engineered high quality components to the Defence sector. The investment in new equipment we have made signifies our commitment to not only this project but also in our goal to become one of the UK’s leading precision manufacturing sub-contractors.”
