ACW Technology Ltd, an independent UK Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company, has announced that it is setting up its first manufacturing facility in the United States. ACW Technology Inc will operate from a 30,000 sq. ft. facility in Durham, North Carolina opening in the second quarter of 2010. Jeffrey Benes, an experienced and successful figure in the EMS industry, will join ACW as Vice President and General Manager to head up the new operation.
Commenting on the announcement Chris Woods, Executive Chairman and founder of ACW said that the company would be making further announcements on specific details regarding the new facility. According to Woods, “this move is part of ACW’s ongoing growth strategy to serve existing and new customers from a wider global platform. We think there is a great opportunity to take systems and expertise developed in the UK, and combine them with the excellent local labour force in North Carolina, to create a US contract manufacturer that provides exceptional services to its customers.
“The new factory will complement our three existing facilities in the UK and China, aiming to achieve three goals; firstly to provide US companies with ACW’s high quality manufacturing service in the US; secondly offer American companies ACW’s UK capability to service their European customers; and finally become one of the development and service sites for US customers wanting to source reliable, high quality, low cost manufacturing from ACW’s wholly owned China factory. Some of ACW’s UK based customers that own US companies will also be able to benefit from having their products ‘Made in America’.”
