The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) has presented its 2009 Contribution to Industry Award to Indro Mukerjee, CEO of C-MAC MicroTechnology and Chair of the Semta Electronics Sector Strategy Group.

The award was presented by Keith Hodgkinson of award sponsor BIS, The Department for Business Innovation and Skills, at the NMI's prestigious annual awards dinner in London.

Derek Boyd, CEO of the NMI said, "Continuous investment in skills is crucial to the long term productivity and global competitiveness of the UK's microelectronics industry.  Businesses need to have access to the right people with the right skills at the right time.  Indro has made a tremendous personal contribution in this vital area of activity and the award reflects this."

"As the Chair of Semta's Electronics Sector Strategy Group for Skills, Indro has played a leading role in re-vitalising the group and providing it with new impetus.  The group is clearly focused on shaping and articulating the skills and knowledge requirements demanded by the electronics industry both now and in the future.  Since October 2008 more than £4.5m of public funding support has been delivered to electronics companies through the sector compact administered by Semta."
