Hamamatsu offers the ideal solution for various colour detection and measurement applications.
Our range of Photo ICs for colour sensing feature low cost, simple operation, high speed digital output or I2C interface compatibility. Compact surface mount and ultra-compact WL-CSP (Wafer Level Chip-Sized-Package) are available.
I2C Compatible Photo IC
The new RGB colour sensor Photo IC features I2C compatibility and uses a small and highly reliable WL-CSP (Wafer Level – Chip Size Package). To ensure low power consumption, this sensor includes an auto-sleep function that automatically switches the detector to standby after a detection event. Another attractive feature of these devices is the ability to use lead-free reflow soldering, which improves the cost and speed of the manufacturing process.
Their compact size, 1.18 x 13.68 x 0.58mm and simplicity of integration with products implementing the I2C protocol, makes them ideal for LCD backlight and RGB-LED brightness adjustment in flat panel televisions and mobile phones.
12-bit Digital Output Photo IC
Our 12 bit digital output colour sensor Photo IC consists of a matrix photodiode array coupled to an RGB (red, green and blue) filter matrix and “in house” CMOS processing electronics, all within a monolithic silicon chip.
The output from the device is serial 12 bit digital data, with each colour intensity (red – green – blue), readout sequentially at potentially high speed. The device then has the advantage of simple operation, requires a standard 3.3V CMOS power supply, higher speed and much lower cost than conventional three colour image sensors and with a higher accuracy and easier implementation compared to current discrete three colour photodiodes.
