After graduating in business studies at Robert Gordon’s University in 1991, Alan Paterson joined the oil and gas industry with Exxon Mobil where he stayed from 1992 to 2004. He worked in the building systems industry with Johnson Controls from 2004 to 2007 as vice president for distribution in Europe and Africa.

As managing director, Michael LeGoff is leading the re-launch of the iconic electronics brand Plessey. The Plymouth-based manufacturer focuses on semiconductor-based sensors and solid-state lighting. The company also has a design centre in Swindon and a sales office in China.

Howard Lin, European managing director for Advantech, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

A graduate from the National Taiwan University with a master degree in electronic engineering Lin joined Hewlett Packard Taiwan in 1989 as a salesperson for measurement equipment. At HP, he had been an engineer, a project manager and regional sales manager. He transferred to Agilent Taiwan in 1998 as the head of sales and later became the vice president in 2000.

Ken Millar, senior European sales channel manager for Microchip, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Ken Millar is senior sales channel manager at Microchip Technology and has been with the company for ten years. He previously worked at IDT for six years as European distribution manager, and before that was sales manager at Hitachi and NEC.

Having graduated in 1982 from Salford University with a BSc Hons in biomedical electronics, Millar started his career with the Royal Liverpool Hospital in the medical electronics department. In 1984, he started a new career in electronics distribution as a field applications engineer with Abacus, before moving to sales with NEC.

Gimme Five – Glenn Palmer

Glenn Palmer, managing director for European distribution and national accounts at Murata, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Glenn Palmer joined Murata in June 1990 as customer services manager following eight years with the Pilkington group. He was appointed OEM sales manager in 1995, then sales and marketing manager in 1998, moving on to sales and marketing director in 2002 and deputy managing director in 2005. In April 2007, he became managing director of Murata Electronics in the UK and three years later managing director for European distribution and national accounts for Murata in Europe.

Gimme Five - Hedley Apperly

Hedley Apperly, vice president of products and marketing at Atego, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Hedley Apperly has been with Atego – or Artisan Software Tools as it was known – since 2008. Before that, he spent six years with Select Business Solutions as its senior vice president and general manager. He has also worked for Aonix, Princeton Softech, Select Software Tools, Royscot Trust, Dataflow Information Systems and RHP. He was educated at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham, and his hobbies include teaching canoeing and power boating.

Ebrahim Bushehri, CEO of Lime Microsystems, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Ebrahim Bushehri’s experience spans more than 15 years in directing and managing design teams for implementing high performance ICs in the wireless communications market. He was with Middlesex University Microelectronics Centre collaborating with top tier organisations such as Nokia, Qinetiq and Fraunhofer IAF. He was a professional group committee member of Institution of Electrical Engineering (IEE) and is a member of Institution of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (IEEE).

Gimme Five – Martin Burns

Martin Burns, director of sales for EMEA at Freescale Semiconductor, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Martin Burns joined Motorola Semiconductors in 1983 as a graduate product engineer. Throughout his career at Motorola and, latterly, Freescale he has successfully held positions in engineering, operations, marketing and sales. Career highlights include working in Stockholm where he was global account manager covering Ericsson and running the 8 and 16bit microcontroller operation in EMEA. In his previous position, Burns was responsible for distribution and regional sales.

Gene Holmes, managing director and co-founder of HCD, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Gene and Carol Holmes founded HCD around 15 years ago. Initially it was a PCB design house, but gradually moved into offering prototyping then full production CEM services at the request of its client base. This experience means that Gene and Carol are very keen on having a local electronics infrastructure – good local PCB manufacturers, component suppliers and so on, as this means the company can be very flexible. Flexibility is also why HCD is so keen on training and apprenticeships to build up a highly skilled workforce.

Darren Grasby, AMD's vice president for worldwide channel sales, talks to Steve Rogerson in his series of interviews for CIEonline.

With AMD since August 2007, Darren Grasby is responsible for driving AMD’s global channel, regional OEM, Asus and Taiwan partner sales organisation. He has held various leadership roles, first as director of EMEA GPU and chipset sales, helping lead AMD to gains in revenue and market share. More recently he held the role of corporate VP of the EMEA channel and SMB management at AMD, managing an organisation that covered Europe and emerging regions, including the Middle East and Russia.

Arrow Electronics recently appointed James Ward as its general manager for the UK and Ireland and in this role he will manage the sales teams and Arrow's branch network in the UK.

Dan Casey, executive vice president and managing director for EMEA at Future Electronics, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

A Canadian, married for over 30 years with two children, Dan Casey has worked all over the world for Future Electronics in various different roles. He began his career with Future Electronics in 1993 as VP and general manager for FAI Americas. After this, he lived in the UK for four and a half years holding the position as corporate vice president and managing director, and then moving to Singapore as corporate vice president and managing director for Asia Pacific.

Martin Harris, head of global field operations for Altium, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Martin Harris joined Altium in August 2009 as vice president of sales and support for EMEA and became regional CEO of EMEA in September 2010. In May this year he was promoted to head of global field operations bringing with him more than 24 years experience in the technology sector from different roles around the globe, such as regional director and MD roles with Autodesk in Asia, sales director with Procam Systems Austria, channel director at MacFuture Technology RSA and Schlumberger Technologies.

Neil Jarvie, vice president of sales for Peratech, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline.

Neil Jarvie, an electronics industry veteran, has recently joined touch technology firm Peratech from Cypress Semiconductor where he worked in global account development with major international brands customers for nearly 12 years. In his role as vice president of sales, Jarvie will be responsible for continuing the development of Peratech’s business that is based on its QTC (quantum tunnelling composite) technology.

Gimme Five – Tim Haynes

Tim Haynes, chief executive and founder of Nujira, talks to Steve Rogerson in our series of interviews for CIEonline. Haynes has brought more than 20 years of telecoms experience to Nujira, most recently as UK operations director at Symbionics, where he had management and operations responsibility for engineering staff within the wireless and multimedia division at the company's two UK design centres. During his 11 year tenure at Symbionics, he founded and managed its cellular business group, securing multiple multi-million dollar contracts with major blue-chip clients.
