New development platform aids evaluation of energy harvesting designs
Future Energy Solutions, a division of technical broadline distributor Future Electronics and a supplier of smart and clean energy solutions, has introduced a development system which enables design engineers to assess the feasibility of using harvested energy to power devices such as wireless sensors. The Energy Harvesting Platform comes with a proprietary PC software tool, which shows the user in real time the flow of energy from its capture by a device such as a solar panel, through conversion and storage, to its use in an application. |

Arrow Electronics and Enterpoint announce free PCI Express training event
Arrow Electronics and Enterpoint are running a training event designed to take attendees through the process of implementing a custom PCI Express (PCIe) design in an Altera Cyclone-IV FPGA. The day, which is free of charge to attend, consists of a lecture session followed by a lab session where attendees get hands-on experience building a custom PCI Express design. The LED provides a luminous flux of typically 98lm in warm white (3,000K), with an operating current of 350mA at an application temperature of 85°C in the chip. |

Successful completion of compliance tests on first Raspberry Pi boards

Testing row delays delivery of Raspberry Pi machines
Further delays are affecting the distribution of the Raspberry Pi computer with distributors saying that they will only be willing to send out the gadgets once they have undergone electromagnetic testing. According to the Pi’s creators the device doesn’t need testing because it is a “development device” and the growing confusion over the issue follows a problem with the manufacture of the device earlier this year when it was found that the wrong parts had been put on the first batch of boards. |

Rutronik is now able to offer the first intelligent IGBT (integrated insulated gate bipolar transistor) drive optocoupler with integrated IGBT protection functions from Renesas. The PS9402 comprises a gallium-aluminum-arsenide (GaAlAs) LED as the light emitting element and a light receiving IC. It is designed to drive IGBTs used in inverter devices for purposes such as motor control or solar power conversion. |
