Phihong USA has developed a new standard open frame power supply that offers up to 160W for IT and multimedia applications. Designated the PSA160 series, the 2" x 4" PSU is available in 12V, 24V, 48V and 56V DC outputs and is ideal for use in 1U racks for a variety of networking applications.
“The PSA160 series is designed for devices that require more power in a small form factor for applications like cable TV,” said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. “The power supplies’ low-cost, high-power output and small footprint allow OEMs to fit a lot of power in a limited space.”
The PSA160 features over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection, with cUL/UL and CE safety approvals. In the event of a voltage surge or over-load, the unit will automatically restart while the output can be shorted permanently without damage. Operating temperatures for the power supply are -20°C to +70°C, load de-rating at 45°C with forced air cooling enabled and at 40°C without fan cooling.
To achieve full power at 160W, the unit must be fan cooled. Without the addition of 12.6 CFM forced air cooling, the output rating is reduced to a maximum of 90W. The PSA160 has high efficiencies between 86-88% at 115VAC input and at 88-90% with 230VAC input.
The power supply measures 101.6mm by 50.8mm by 34.5mm and weighs 185g for the 12V model and 195g for the remaining models in the series.
