Solid State introduces space-saving GPS module with embedded antenna
Published:  23 November, 2011

Solid State Supplies has unveiled a GPS module with embedded patch antenna in a space-saving 28 x 16 x 3mm form factor. Designed for industrial applications, the surface-mounted L50 module, manufactured by Quectel, is built around the SiRFstarIV chip. It has acquisition sensitivity of -148dBm and tracking sensitivity of -163dBm, and consumes only 33mA while tracking.

The module features rapid cold and warm start-up through the use of Client Generated Extended Ephemeris (CGEE). Ephemeris data is used to calculate the position of each orbiting satellite and also provides information about the time and status of the whole satellite constellation. The L50 handles 48 Pseudo Random Noise (PRN) codes, which allows the receiver to recognize multiple satellites on the same frequency through Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The L50 also includes an active jammer remover.
