C-MAC announces manufacturing agreement with Maxwell Technologies
Published:  22 September, 2011

C-MAC MicroTechnology and the Microelectronics division of Maxwell Technologies UK have signed a manufacturing agreement to provide the European, Canadian and Asian space markets with fully qualified radiation hardened (rad-hard) memory devices. This move will help reinforce C-MAC’s strategy for growth within the space market following the company’s accreditation to MIL-PRF-38534 Class K in 2007.

The agreement will see C-MAC design, assemble, test and qualify Maxwell Technologies UK’s rad-tolerant 1Mb and 4Mb EEPROM products at its plant in Great Yarmouth, United Kingdom. This relationship will combine C-MAC’s extensive range of microelectronic packaging and test services with Maxwell UK’s class leading space grade memory products.

The agreement allows C-MAC to expand its radiation hard, space grade product offering while providing European customers with a local source for Maxwell UK’s microelectronic devices. The product range will be available with qualification to MIL-PRF-38534 Class K or ESA’s ESCC 9000 generic procurement specification if required. The two companies combine a wealth of design and manufacturing expertise in microelectronics technology and this agreement confirms their commitment to the European space market in particular.

Commenting Karen Oddey, CEO Aerospace and Defence, at C-MAC MicroTechnology, said, “This agreement strengthens C-MAC’s position as the leading European manufacturer of radiation hard, space qualified microelectronics while helping to ease the procurement process for satellite producers throughout Europe and beyond. Maxwell have built a solid reputation for its range of memory products and our intention is to make this the first step in a long and mutually successful relationship”

C-MAC began its journey in the space market in the mid-1980s and the recent launch of a range of rad-hard power conditioning products has helped to pave the way for this latest agreement.

Keith Watts, European Sales Manager, Maxwell Technologies UK stated, “ We are working independently of our US parent company to meet demand created by the rapid growth of domestic and military satellite technology and continuing space exploration across Europe and beyond. But we will match the same exacting standards and quality which has been fundamental to the success of Maxwell in the US over the past 45 years.”
