Published:  06 June, 2011

Wolfson Microelectronics has announced that its power management solution, the WM8321, and its advanced audio hub solution, the WM8993 have been selected by the media processor and platforms company ZiiLABS for use in its recently introduced JAGUAR Android reference tablets, powered by the ZiiLABS ZMS-20 energy-efficient processor.

Engineered for high-resolution tablet computing, the ZMS-20 features multi-core application acceleration and combines with Wolfson’s WM8321 and WM8993 to deliver dynamic power management and audio and offers longer battery life for the next generation of Android 3.X-based tablets.

The ZMS-20 combines ZiiLABS’ 48 Stemcell media processing cores with Dual-Core 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Processors with Neon to deliver 1080p high profile video playback, immersive OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics, HD video calling and a rich desktop browsing experience including Adobe(R) Flash(R) Player.

The WM8321 has been specifically designed for low power portable multimedia applications, including tablet PCs, smartphones, eBook readers, media players and any application with a multimedia processor.

Featuring four programmable DC-DC synchronous buck converters, it is capable of delivering high performance and high efficiency across a wide range of operating conditions, while its integrated one-time programmable (OTP) memory helps reduce time-to-market.

The WM8993 combines Wolfson’s hub architecture and ultra-low power technology to manage all audio processing and routing in a multimedia application. By managing, converting and processing the full array of diverse audio streams, including voice, speaker, microphone, music and headphone signals, the WM8993 is able to provide a flexible audio mixing capability.
