New pocket-sized broadband amplifier with a huge frequency range
Published:  19 April, 2011

Amplifier Technology Ltd has developed a new, compact broadband amplifier, model number 8790, which operates at the higher frequencies used by WiMAX, 3G and 4G phones. The 8790 can be integrated into a variety of systems, for different applications. It is suitable for jamming or for laboratory testing, or could be used to drive other RF devices.

The amplifier is compact, light and easily portable whilst achieving exceptional RF performance. The GaN technology used in the design results in a massive frequency range from 20 MHz and 6.0 GHz, with a guaranteed minimum saturated output power of 10 Watts and a minimum efficiency of 15% at 10 Watts.

Measuring just 65 x 120 x 25mm and weighing less than 250g, the 8790 is one of the smallest amplifiers available on the market with this specification. It compliments the other counter IED amplifiers, the 8778 (30W, 0.5-2.5GHz) and the 8780 (25W, 2-6GHz) currently produced by Amplifier Technology.

Amplifier Technology, based just outside Bristol, UK, is specialist designer and manufacturer of RF power amplifiers for military and aerospace. The company uses CAD and LEAN manufacturing and provides a bespoke amplifier design service.
