Wolfson Microelectronics has launched the WM229, its latest ear-bud headset reference solution, the first to incorporate the company’s WM2002 digital Ambient Noise Cancelling IC. The WM229 delivers Wolfson’s multi-patented feed-forward digital myZone Ambient Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology and high definition (HD) audio in a mass-market headset.
The WM229 combines styling with enhanced HD audio performance, and the WM229 ‘white label’ digital ANC headset is compatible with a host of consumer electronics products, including mobile phones, and can be quickly and easily customised and branded by consumer electronics manufacturers, to be delivered in-box or sold as an after-market accessory.
Wolfson’s myZone feed-forward ANC technology provides HD audio by eliminating background noise, removing the need for consumers to increase the audio volume to compensate for external noise, providing manufacturers with an ideal solution to prevent hearing damage caused by listening to loud music for extended periods. With three user-selectable ANC modes stored in its digital memory, the WM229 enables the user to select the level of ANC depending on the noise in their environment, so they can enjoy their music or focus on their phone calls, eliminating noisy distractions.
Delivering up to 30dB peak active ambient noise cancellation, and over 15 hours of HD audio playback with ANC on a single charge, the USB rechargeable WM229 features a voice microphone and sleek in-line control pod with which the user can select one of the three ANC modes: Office, suitable for minimising the low ambient noise from office equipment, speech, telephony and air conditioning units; Commute, which targets the constantly changing levels of noise experienced during the urban commute; and Aircraft, which minimises persistent and very high levels of stationary noise, such as aircraft engine noise.
