Vishay’s latest wet tantalum capacitor approved to DSCC Drawing 10011
Published:  18 May, 2010

Vishay Intertechnology has announced a new ultra-high-capacitance, wet tantalum capacitor approved to the new DSCC Drawing 10011. Vishay's DSCC 10011 device features a capacitance to 72,000 µF in the A, B, and C case codes. For high-reliability applications, the 10011 features a glass-to-metal hermetic seal, operates over a temperature range of - 55 °C to +85 °C, to 125 °C with voltage derating, and provides low maximum ESR down to 0.035 Ω at 1 kHz.

Its unique cathode system provides the highest capacitance per unit volume available, and the 10011 represents a major breakthrough in wet tantalum capacitor technology for high-energy applications. The device combines the inherent reliability of wet tantalum with the capacitance stability of solid tantalum to eliminate circuit impedance restrictions and dramatically increase capacitance ratings.

Housed in an all-tantalum, hermetically sealed case, and manufactured to withstand high stress and hazardous environments, the new capacitor provides a unique double seal for reliable performance in low-voltage filtering and energy storage applications for demanding military and aerospace systems including weapon systems, radars, transponders, and power supplies.

The device offers capacitances from 1100 µF to 72,000 µF over a voltage range of 25 V to 125 V, and capacitance tolerances of ± 20 % standard at 120 Hz and + 25 °C. By providing designers with a new high standard for capacitance in a single device, the new capacitor enables reduction of capacitor or component count, lowers the amount of board space required, and simplifies the overall manufacturing and assembly process.

Samples and production quantities of the new 10011 wet tantalum capacitor are available now, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders.
