Design LED Products is expanding its worldwide sales capacity through a licensing agreement with Parlex Corp. The agreement enables the Parlex sales force to promote and sell Design LED ultra thin printed lightguide technology globally.

Commenting on the deal Stuart Bain, Design LED CEO said, “The market for thin lightguide technology is ramping up as designers look for new and innovative ways for their products to interact with the user. In Parlex we have a partner with a strong technical sales team that is able to identify opportunities where our technology can make a real difference to customer’s designs.”

According to Thibaud Le Séguillon, Parlex President, Design LED’s technology complements their core design and custom manufacturing business, “Some of the world’s largest companies rely on Parlex to design, prototype and manufacture their most advanced products.  Adding Design LED technology to our portfolio will enable us to offer our customers an innovative, bespoke alternative to traditional backlighting to enhance the product’s performance.”

A printed light guide is a multi-layer panel comprising a flexible PCB, side-emitting LEDs and a screen-printed optical layer.  The assembly is built using a combination of proven processes and patented techniques, and can achieve a total thickness of 1mm.  Printed lightguides allow LED illumination to be distributed uniformly within a defined area, which improves the appearance and performance of many types of industrial, commercial, domestic and consumer products.
