AVX expands TransGuard series to include high voltage 1210 varistor
Published:  16 March, 2010

The AVX Corporation, a manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has expanded its multilayer TransGuard Series to include a 85VDC rating in a 1210 case size. Designated the VC121085S151 Series, the single-chip solution provides bi-directional transient voltage protection in the on-state and excellent EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state.

Equipped with sub-nS turn-on time, the 85VDC varistor has the ability to withstand multiple strikes and provides energy and current handling capability while protecting sensitive circuits from over-voltage conditions caused by ESD, lightning, NEMP and inductive switching.

In addition, the VC121085S151 Series devices have a peak current rating of 250A, whereas competitive devices are limited to 200A ratings.

“As a circuit protection leader, AVX continuously strives to meet market demands by improving our current product series as well as developing new products,” said Sonja Brown, global product manager for circuit protection products at AVX. “We believe the VC121085S150 Series is not only a cost effective, single-chip solution, but is also the highest rated 1210 varistor on the market.”

The VC121085S150 Series is ideal for DC-to-DC converters on hybrid electric vehicles; aftermarket automotive accessories, such as GPS and audio equipment; renewable energy modules using a 48V BUS, like wind powered chargers, solar panels, and inverters; as well as commercial and military vehicles.
