Pulse Power & Measurement (PPM) has launched a new series of bi-directional power systems from Heinzinger, a German based company that designs, manufactures and tests precision power supplies. Designed to act as a highly dynamic power source or sink, the new ERS series offers testing capabilities for inverters, battery and other power electronics systems.
Regardless of the mode of operation the user still has access to the full 500A of current handling capability. With models supporting up to 1200V and 200kW simulation or test of the largest systems is possible.
Transition from source to sink happens seamlessly, with no requirement for switching. Energy that is recovered from the load is passed through the unit’s inverter and returned to the grid. This significantly reduces energy consumption and thermal management problems in a lab.
“The ERS brings a unique capability to PPM.” said Phil Surman, Business Development Manager. “I am delighted to be able to bring this product to the UK. It offers companies developing the next generation of power electronics, motor drives and energy storage systems a flexible testing tool.”
PPM has only recently added Heinzinger to its range of high power and high precision power supplies. The German company’s capabilities extend to 400kV or 5kA, and precision versions for applications requiring ultra tight regulation, low ripple and high stability, almost any application can be tackled.
According to Surman, “The Heinzinger product lines offer an extra dimension to our high voltage and high energy physics customers. The ability to offer very high voltages and significantly higher power levels opens new opportunities for PPM. Upcoming developments in bi-directional power systems offer test and simulation solutions to engineers working with energy storage systems such as batteries and super-capacitors. This is a market that will become increasingly important.”
