Express Logic, Inc., a developer of royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), and IAR Systems, a provider of software tools for embedded systems, have announced a commercial-grade integration for developers of serious applications. The integration combines Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS and IAR Embedded Workbench IDE in a form that can be used out-of-the box by developers of embedded applications.
Both Express Logic and IAR Systems products support popular 32-bit architectures, including ARM's ARM7, ARM9 and Cortex-M3, Freescale's ColdFire, NEC's V850, and Renesas's H8.
Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS is structured for use with IAR's Embedded Workbench IDE in a source code project. Developers can immediately compile and build the RTOS library and link it with their application code that uses its services. IAR's Embedded Workbench provides the editing, compilation, debugging, and version control facilities to support embedded development.
In addition, IAR Embedded Workbench now includes RTOS kernel awareness for ThreadX. This gives developers a view of all kernel objects and application threads, and enables them to set thread-specific breakpoints. ThreadX is provided with a quick-start demo application, with full source code, that developers can use to familiarize themselves with its features and mechanisms.
"Many of our ThreadX customers use IAR's Embedded Workbench as their preferred development environment," said William E,. Lamie, President of Express Logic. "Now, developers using Freescale's ColdeFire can also enjoy the benefits of the ThreadX-IAR combination and speed their products to market faster."
Commenting on the collaboration, Fredrik Medin, Marketing Director, IAR Systems says, "ThreadX RTOS and IAR Embedded Workbench complement each other extremely well and suit the development of a broad range of consumer and industrial applications. To be successful in these markets designs need to be introduced as quickly as possible and the combination of our products greatly aid that process."
