The introduction of these new series has seen Ideal Power expand their medical PSUs portfolio to over 500 different models across their desktop, plugtop, AC/DC and DC/DC components; offering greater choice to medical, dentistry and home healthcare manufacturers across the globe.
IEC 60601-1 4th Edition
The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) work to harmonise global standards to improve the functionality and safety of electronic technology. Though the IEC 60601-1 standard has been in effect for some 40 years, the advancement of technology (such as smartphones and tablets) in environments housing medical equipment has made the operation of medical apparatus more complex.
The 4th Edition seeks to address the emissions and immunity of electromagnetic disturbances, calling for more stringent risk assessments in particular by allowing consideration of operation environments, such as home healthcare applications.
Though the IEC standard itself is not compulsory, key territories are set to follow suit, with America and Europe introducing UL/EN 60601-1 4th Edition in December 2018.
